SU fans pack pep rally to support Syracuse

By LEXIE O'CONNOR

VERONA, N.Y. (WKTV) - An Orange Spirit Pep Rally was held at Turning Stone Resort and Casino Friday to show support for the Syracuse's Men's Basketball team. SU will take on Michigan in the Final Four in Atlanta, Georgia Saturday just before 9 pm.

On the eve of the big game, the SU spirit filled Turning Stone's Emerald Lobby for the pep rally.

Unable to get to Atlanta, the fans chose a closer place to show their support for New York's team all with their own rituals for the orange to take home a win.

"I sit in the same chair, I don't change the TV, all these superstitious things," Sue Tarkowski of Rome.

"On late night games we all wear Syracuse pajamas, and we all actually sleep on the couch and watch the game together," said Andrea Cartino of Syracuse. "It's been really exciting really fun."

From the DJ's orange suit, to orange beads given out to anyone walking by, lots of orange filled the casino what some fans say is not just a color to them, especially on this weekend.

"That's the only thing I think of when I see orange," said Cartino. "I hope they go all the way we need it."

Contests included a Jim Boeheim Look-A-Like Contest and a Most Orange Person Contest. A group cheer and balloon drop capped off the pep rally.
