NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - Holland Patent senior Meghan Pflieger has one more gymnastics meet before going to college, this weekend's high school nationals in Ft Myers, Florida. Pflieger, who also represents New Hartford in high school competitions, and won the New York State All-Around this year, is ranked fifth in the nation.
It's a little bittersweet for Pfielger, however, as it's also the last time she will compete under the guidance of Danielle McQueary, owner and #1 coach at Valley Gymnastics.
"It's definitely going to be tough," says Pflieger. "It's my family here. Me going off to college, this is my second home. It's going to be difficult, but I'm excited for a new door to open."
After graduating from Holland Patent and spending the summer with her family, Pflieger will be heading to New Hampshire to compete for the Wildcat Gymnastics team.
But first things first, Pflieger is setting her sights on the Sunshine State this weekend.
"She's ready," says McQueary. "She's going there to win. She's not going there to be second, third or fourth, she's going there to do her absolute best and that's just the type of competitor she is, she'll go there and she'll wear her heart on her sleeve and she'll give it all she's got. It's going to be hard for her, because she does know this is her last competition with us, so it's going to be emotional as well."
