Golf fans at Turning Stone tourney can buy beer this year

VERONA, N.Y. (AP) - Play is under way at the Oneida Indian Nation's Turning Stone Resort Championship and this year fans will be able to sip beer as they watch the golf tournament.

Last year, only invited guests of businesses and organizations
sponsoring the event could drink alcohol in designated hospitality areas after the tribe failed to obtain a state liquor license.

The Oneida Nation failed again this year to get a liquor license but state regulators are allowing the tribe to hire caterers to provide liquor at the four-day tournament.

Nation spokesman Mark Emery says there will be three concession
areas where people 21 years and older will be able to buy beer.
