Golf fans brave wet weather at 2009 Turning Stone Championship

By By EVAN WHITE

VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - It was tough going for golf fans as they braved their way through wicked weather to view the 2009 Turning Stone Resort Championship at the Atunyote Golf Club in Vernon.

Rain has been constant during Round One. While players seem to be striking the ball well, organizers appear to be striking out at the gate. At 7:15 a.m. Thursday morning, the first group swung into action with some powerful shots. A small crowd gathered but withered as the morning carried on.

Hardcore golf fans stuck it out, considering this a must see tournament.

But to deal with the chilly wet weather at an open venue like this, you truly have to be a fanatic.

"I've been a golf fan for a long time, worked at a golf course and just wanted to see these guys up close," said golf fan David Cliff.

When asked if the weather was going to influence whether or not Myles Maxon, another fan, stayed out on the course, he seemed confident he was seeing it through no matter what.

"I'll stay for the golf rain or shine," Maxon said.

Last year started out just as bad, but was even more windy. We can only hope the conditions improve for fans and players through the next three rounds.
