Turning Stone Resort Championship officials already looking at next year's event
VERNON, N.Y. (WKTV) - The third annual Turning Stone Resort Championship is in the books, and officials are already looking ahead to next year's event. One goal is add bigger and better things.
The final two days of the event, Saturday and Sunday, which much different from the start of this year's tournament because of the difference in weather. The weekend's sun brought in better attendance numbers. Tournament Director Ann Spencer said, "obviously the weather did not cooperate with us. My wish to the weather gods after last year's event did not come through. Yesterday was a gorgeous day. The great weather was nice not only to the fans who came out, but to the professional golfers who make the trip. Scores dramatically improved from Thursday and Friday to Saturday and Sunday. This is the second straight year that the event was met with wet weather. Despite that, tournament officials are happy with the progression of the PGA event since its first year, now three years ago. They say now that 2009 is done, it is time to look ahead to 2010 and how next year can be even better. Spencer said, "every year we certainly get the feed back from our various components of the events: sponsors players, volunteers. We really do take that feed back and look at it and see what we can implement for the following years event. Even now walking around, I am looking at different things I would like to do to tweak and change and make better." There were still no official numbers as far as spectators go, but tournament officials say given the biggest obstacle this week being the weather, they were pleased at how many people still came out. The six-year contract for the Turning Stone Resort Championship means the tournament will be played on the fall series. When asked if it could be moved up next year to an earlier week in order to compensate for better weather, the tournament director said the scheduling for next year has not come out yet.
