Canucks trade Luongo, get Markstrom & Matthias

By Sports WKTV

The Vancouver Canucks have sent goalie Roberto Luongo back to the team they got him from eight years ago: The Florida Panthers.  In return, the Comets' parent club received the AHL's Goaltender of the Month, Jacob Markstrom, who was in Utica just last week, shutting out the Comets in San Antonio's 3-0 win Wednesday.

The Canucks also recieved forward Shawn Matthias just hours before Wednesday's trade deadline.

The trade may have an impact on the Comets, with Markstrom likely to compete with Eddie Lack for Vancouver's starting job.  If Markstrom falters, Joacim Ericksson may get another chance with the big club.  At the very least, it means the Canucks now have three goalies in the organization with a lot of AHL experience this season in Markstrom, Ericksson and Joe Cannata.

The Comets will be back at the Aud Wednesday night, when they host Oklahoma City at 7.  They also play at home Friday night, against Wilkes-Barre/Scranton.
