(WKTV) - Playoff hopes for the Utica Comets were dashed Wednesday after a 4-1 loss to the Rochester Americans at The Aud.
David Marshall scored the lone goal for the Comets, with Ray Kaunisto collecting his first assist as a Comet on the play. Joacim Eriksson took the defeat for the Comets, with 18 saves on 22 shots. Andrei Makarov was the victor for the Americans, turning aside 31 of 32 shots for his sixth win in nine appearances.
The Americans scored the first goal of the game just two minutes into the first period. The Comets tied the game late in the opening period, but the Americans scored two goals in the second period and one goal in the third period to pull ahead.
The Comets will play this weekend, as they host the Toronto Marlies and the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in their final two games of the season. The Marlies will visit Friday, with the Penguins coming on Saturday. Both games will be at 7 p.m.
The comets are 33-32-5-4 for the season.
