Snow/Ice Storm

A complex and potent system impacted Central New York right after the New Year. It brought with it a mixed bag of snow, sleet, freezing rain and plain rain. This was a classic elevation event, with higher hilltops receiving the highest snowfall totals, while the larger towns in the Mohawk Valley (or several other valleys) received next to nothing in frozen form. Adding to the complexity of this storm was an extremely sharp cutoff to the precipitation across the North Country. Some folks in Otsego County received a healthy dose of snow and ice, while folks up in northern Herkimer County received little, if any precipitation. Regionally, the heaviest snow fell in the hills just south of Albany and in Connecticut, where 1-2 feet was reported. The following are various reports of snow and ice totals from SkyWatchers and National Weather Service Storm Reports. Thanks to all who reported in!
