Snow Totals
February 25, 2006

The forecast for February 25 was interesting. What we saw in the days before was a common "Alberta Clipper" storm approaching us. The issue with these storms is timing (because they are notoriously fast movers) and snowfall intensity (because they can sometimes surprise). To play it safe, we stuck to the high end of the possibilities, and it's a good thing. This was a very productive system. It came in two prongs. First the precipitation out ahead of the storm dumped a general 1-4" or so of snow on the region. Then at about 12-1 PM as a cold front began to sag south into Central New York, the snow really cranked up. With whiteout conditions and blustery winds with this front, travel was very hazardous across the region. Anywhere from 1-5" or more fell with this round of snow. As the front came through, temperatures plummeted into the low teens and eventually single digits over most of CNY. Overall, most people received 4-8" of accumulation, but we received numerous 9-12" reports into the weather center, mainly north of a line from Lake Delta-Norway-Lake Pleasant. The following are snow totals from our SkyWatchers and National Weather Service public information statements. Thanks as always to our SkyWatchers for your continued assistance!
