July

The barrage of heavy rainfall that gave identity to the summer of 06 continued in the first days of July. With temps in the low to mid 80s, heavy thunderstorms dumped anywhere from 1-2" on parts of CNY through the 4th of July. A nice 4-day reprieve occurred after the 4th, with sunshine and comfortable mid-summer temperatures. The Boilermaker had great weather on the 9th.

Some strong storms hit us on early morning of the 11th:

Lots of lightning and more heavy rain occurred with these. But then the 12th and 13th saw a return to flooding. Widespread flash flooding occurred north of Route 20 as a storm system moved through. We got another break between the 14th and the 18th. On the 18th a rogue severe storm developed in Otsego County and brought some wind and hail damage, along with heavy rain:

Another round of stagnant thunderstorms brought flooding the morning of the 21st to western Oneida County, primarily Camden and Vienna. Then the second widespread flash flood event of the month occurred on the 22nd. About 3-5" of rain fell on Herkimer and Otsego Counties again. The NWS Albany has an image of how much rain fell:

They also have a website with info on this event. We also have rain totals on our website here. We got a two day break and then another wild night ensued on the 25th when up to 7" (estimated by radar) fell north of Salisbury, Herkimer County:

A brief rest for the 26th, but then heavy PM storms brought up to an inch and a half in spots on the 27th, followed by heavy rain and localized flash flooding on the 28th. Then the second biggest weather story this summer occurred on the 29th. A complex of extremely strong thunderstorms rolled in after about 2-3 PM bringing blinding downpours, strong winds and the only confirmed tornado in our viewing area this year... an F-0 in Marcy. Here's the NWS Binghamton page on it. Links from WKTV can be found here. Photos of this event and damage can be found in the Weather Photo Gallery, which you can access from the Weather dropdown above.

July closed out like a lamb, with sunshine and warm temperatures.
