August

August began as one of the hottest days in recent memory. Excessive Heat Warnings were posted for all of CNY. Officially, we hit 94 on the 1st, but many locations topped off in the 95-100 degree range. We were on our way to our second 95-100 degree day, but a cluster of severe thunderstorms (that brought some significant damage to Camden) ended that chance. We still hit 90-95 degrees. We continued the rainy trend on the 3rd and 4th with some gusty thunderstorms and heavy rain.

But then the nicest stretch of summer began. The 5th through the 9th saw highs range from the mid 70s to mid 80s with sunshine and a passing storm. A few showers ushered in unseasonably chilly, dry air for the 10th through the 14th. In fact, on August 12th, we broke our only record low of the year by hitting 45 degrees. We received one report of frost in the Adirondacks.

Generally light rains impacted us for mid-month, followed by pleasant weather from the 16th through the 18th. Another round of some heavy rain, but no flooding, hit us from the 19th into the 20th. Quiet, typical summer weather occurred for the rest of the month. One bout of heavy rain occurred on the 29th, with a widespread 1-2" occurring.

All in all, August was a quiet...almost boring month! But it was much needed. Record rains over the summer, and here's a sampling of a few final June through August totals.
