Local areas to see harsh storms as result of Irene

UTICA, N.Y. (WKTV) - The City of Utica will see some rain and wind from Hurricane Irene, but points east will get hit the hardest. Herkimer, Hamilton, Fulton and Montgomery Counties are all under a Tropical Storm Warning.

Nearly five inches of rain can be expected in those areas.

Utica Mayor David Roefaro said he isn’t taking any chances with Hurricane Irene looming. The mayor met with both DPW and engineering staff Saturday morning in an attempt to avoid flooding.

The local Red Cross chapter is keeping a close eye on the storm's path. They have been in constant contact with local emergency management services and looking at possible shelter sites.
