It is hard to believe but a week ago we were sitting at 58° with rain on the horizion. On the same day, severe weather broke out across the MidAtlantic and Southeast. A satellite flew over the activity during the night time and captured some lighting in Tennessee. Because of the near-full moon, the satellite was able to see details of the storm clouds that would only be visible during daylight hours to other satellites
Speaking of severe weather, Monday marked the year anniversary of the passing of a well known storm chaser, Andy Gabrielson. Andy was killed by a drunk driver  while on his way back home from chasing storms in Texas. In his honor, storm chasers did a tribute on Monday by forming his initials via GPS plots on a map. A memorial fund has been set up in his honor as a storm chaser and weather enthusiast by encouraging individual students to accomplish their dreams and goals, as Andy did, through higher education in meteorology studies.

Finally, Punxsutawney Phil was not the only one honored on Groundhog's Day. Jim Cantore was inducted into the Meteorologist Hall of Fame. The ceremony took place on Saturday at the Punxsutawney Weather Discovery Center.
