Good morning Central New York!  The snowstorm all over the headines will be a big miss for us here in Central New York.  It may not snow much over the next few days, but it will definately feel like winter with cold temperatures and windy conditions.  Expect slow improvements through the week, with a warmup possible heading into the weekend.  Details below...

A big storm system will track up the east coast today.  For us here in Central New York, most of the snow will pass well to our east.  We'll see a mix of sunshine and clouds west of Utica, with only an occasional flurry.  From Utica east to about Herkimer & Cooperstown, mostly cloudy with occasional light snow showers.  East of Herkimer and Cooperstown, some accumulations are possible, with a steadier light snow through the day.  The vast majority of the accumulating snow will be east of Albany.  A snowfall forecast map can be found below.

Temperatures are going to be the bigger story.  Today's storm system will draw in a large amount of cold air into the region, which wil last for the next few days.  Temperatures this morning and afternoon are only expected to be in the teens.  With winds from the north between 15-25mph, wind chills will make it feel like zero or less through most of the day.  With some clearing, overnight lows are expected to fall to near or below zero in most locations.

Here's a look at what you can expect through this evening:

With all the cold air in place, there will be some lake effect that will develop.  However, with a north wind, most of the lake effect is expected to stay west of the viewing area today and tonight.  Some light snows are possible Tuesday, with perhaps some accumulating lake effect Tuesday night.

For mid week, an area of high pressure will build in, meaning a return to more sunshine.  Temperatures will also slowly warm up into the 20s by Wednesday, and 30s by Thursday and Friday.   There are signs of a warm up as we head into next weekend with temperatures above normal, but with the chance of mixed precipitation or even rain. Stay tuned.
