The bottom line: We are expecting near or just slightly below normal temperatures for the winter as whole, but that will depend on the extent of the early season cold and mid to late season warm up.

We are also expecting below normal snowfall for Utica, with a slight potential for near or above normal snowfall on the Tug Hill.

December should feature colder than normal conditions.

January should feature a cold start, but quite a warm up for the 2nd half of the month.

February is looking like a warm month, with near normal snowfall.

March should see a return to cooler conditions and potentially above normal snowfall.

For meteorological winter (Dec, Jan, Feb), Utica averages 26 degrees for a temperature and Sept-May snowfall averages 98.9".

As with any seasonal outlook, while we have confidence, many things can go awry because of a number of factors, ranging from a change in the water temperature of the Pacific Ocean to one cold snap or one snowstorm that ends up stronger than predicted. A seasonal outlook is just that... an outlook, and will likely not behave exactly as we think. But, we do feel this is a good starting point for what will occur this winter.
