Goods for hurricane victims being collected at Mohawk American Legion

MOHAWK, N.Y. (WKTV) - The Herkimer Rotary Club is collecting goods at the American Legion in Mohawk to help those impacted by Hurricane Sandy.

A large moving truck needs to be filled before it can be brought to the areas that were hardest hit by the storm and organizers are hoping to include items such as socks, underwear, blankets and coats in their delivery.

After the truck is filled, it will be driven down to Staten Island for distribution.

"I want to fill the 24-foot truck right up with stuff," said Herkimer Rotary Club Member Ed View. "All kinds of stuff that they need down there. They need cleaning supplies, they need gloves, they need plastic gloves, surgical gloves and masks, because, cleaning inside these houses, there's nothing but caustic stuff that's not good for you. That's where they are at right now, cleaning up the mess."

The collection, at the American Legion in Mohawk is also taking place Saturday until 4 p.m.
