NYSEG crews work to restore power to more than 800 in Otsego County

OTSEGO COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - More than 800 people are without power in Otsego County as of Tuesday, following the fast winds brought in overnight due to Hurricane Sandy.

Representatives with Otsego County Emergency Management services say they have been in constant contact with New York State Energy and Gas (NYSEG), who supplies power to much of the area. The company is working now to restore electricity but cannot pinpoint an exact time when the electricity should be back on for residents

Officials say the worst hit area seems to be on Route 26 in Fly Creek where 200 people are without power. NYSEG employees were seen Tuesday morning working on various downed lines. They say it can sometimes take four or five hours to fix just one line.

Many residents were also seen out in their yards Tuesday throughout the county, cleaning up branches and debris from the wind.
