Residents cleaning up after West Canada Creek rushes over its banks

By JOLEEN FERRIS

MIDDLEVILLE, N.Y. (WKTV) - The West Canada Creek was barely contained within its banks Tuesday off of Fishing Rock Road in the Village of Middleville.

Monday night, the waters would not be contained as heavy rains caused it to rush its banks. On Tuesday, people in the village were sweeping and hosing the remnants of it out of their homes and businesses.

The flood left its mark in other ways too, causing mudslides and taking out entire sections of pavement.

"It undermined all the sidewalk here and took the driveway out and went on the first floor and second floor on Mr. Sweeney and his wife's building and it made a heck of a mess again for us," said Dennis Lynch, who was cleaning up in Middleville following the storms.

Village Mayor Craig Fox says he and other village officials are talking with U.S. Senator Charles Schumer about getting the federal government to help pay for some of this cleanup, and, fix the problem so this doesn't happen again.
