Residents in Mohawk and Ilion dealing with wet, muddy situation

HERKIMER COUNTY, N.Y. (WKTV) - The rain that came down early Friday morning made for quite a mess all over the village of Mohawk.

Chuck Mower who lives on Warren Road says he woke up around 12:30 Friday morning.

"And you cold see the water coming up and up and up, and foolishly, I didn't move my cars," Mower said. "I should have. By the time I thought of it, it was too late, you know?"

Both of Mower's cars are now filled with mud, as is his basement and his in-ground swimming pool.

At the corner of West Main Street and Warren Road in Mohawk, the sidewalk gave way to the ground that collapsed underneath it.

Francesca's Banquet Hall in Ilion now has a water view, as water fills Main Street, right outside its doors. Jeff Stevenson lives right next door and says the area has flooded in the past.

"It does, but it never gets this bad," Stevenson said. "It's been before, but not this bad."

Stevenson says it's mother nature and he just has to deal with it.

"I don't think they could stop it, no matter what," he said. "It happened all over the village, every place."
