Week Three: Whetstone Gulf State Park - Gorge

By Weather WKTV

Great hikes aren't always up mountains.  This hike explores dramatic topography surrounding a masssive gorge on the eastern end of the Tug Hill.

This is a very unquie hike with some amazing views.  The main trail circles the steep gorge.  Dramatic cliffs & steep drops can be seen through the foliage.  It's worth the drive!

*Warning* there are no safety fences along the steep drops.  Bringing small children is discouraged.  Be careful exploring the cliffs.

The trail begins at Whetstone Gulf State Park.  The loop trail has two seperate access points and takes about 3 hours to hike.  Also, be sure to check out the lookout across the valley.

Directions -

From Utica - head north along route 12 to Boonville.  Take route 26.  Past Turin, look for signs to the state park.  The Park will be on the left before Lowville.
