New Hartford teen is victim in SUNY Brockport murder


NEW HARTFORD, N.Y. (WKTV) - A family spokesperson confirms to NEWSChannel 2 that Alexandra Kogut, of New Hartford, was the victim killed Saturday morning at SUNY Brockport.

Kogut, a 2012 graduate from New Hartford High School was a freshman at SUNY Brockport.

The family says, "Alexandra Kogut was a bright, beautiful young woman who was thrilled to be beginning her college education. Her lovely and sweet demeanor was truly infectious and she will forever be missed. Her family is very grateful for the tremendous outpouring of love and support that they have received from so many friends and neighbors."

Joe Romanelli, a friend of the family who is acting as their spokesperson, says the family is asking for their privacy at this difficult time.

The student was allegedly murdered by her boyfriend, 21-year-old Clayton Whittemore, according to the Monroe County Sheriff's Office.

Whittemore is also a graduate of New Hartford High School, being known around the area as a hockey star. He won back to back state championships and was state player of the year in 2011 while playing for the Spartans.

Whittemore is a student at Utica College, according to college officials.
