If you drive from Herkimer to Middleville, using route 28, there will be a high steep ridge to the left. The ridge runs from Herkimer to Middleville and then extends west towards Bell Hill. The result is the corner piece Harter Hill towering over Middleville. Harter Hill Shows up on the maps as being exceedingly close to the height of Barto Hill. Cook Hill Rd. starts at Schrader Hill, raps around the west side of Harter Hill, and descends the ridge on the north side.
On the descending side the road follows a stream in a steep cut through the hillside. Here you get a great view of the terrain gradually climbing to the Adirondacks from the West Canada Creek.
In the first picture I'm looking east toward the ridge that separates East and West Canada Creek. There, on the side of Barto Hill are four unfinished wind turbines. I keep hearing that the project has slowed, because the foundations have problems. The Evening Times had an article stating there will be twenty five turbines in Fairfield. This is only four, can you imagine twenty five?!
The third picture shows Carey Corners. This is beautiful farm country. Here a stream valley leads west from Harter and Schrader Hill down to Sterling Creek. To the west you can see Bell Hill.
