A curious place on the boundary of Fairfield and Newport is Old City. Just the name itself makes me wonder. It's located uphill from where Platform Rd. and Castle Rd. meet 28 called on some maps Welch Corners. Old city Rd. branches off of Castle Rd. to the left and connects with White Creek Rd. The road is split by a fenced stone arched bridge so that traffic can't cross. From the bridge you can view a falls that's surprisingly large. To the right in the woods, is supposedly the ruins of a structure. The Castle of Castle Rd. Don't try to drive there though. It's best to walk or bike to the bridge. The roads and surrounding properties have posted and no parking signs everywhere. The falls and ruins are consumed by private property. I'm not sure if the ruins can be viewed. People have visited the ruins for years, but I have heard recently of people being chased off.
