Well folks our visiting friend (MR.Moose) had to be put down in the beautiful hills of Steuben in late afternoon on wed 10-20-2010 by the correct State officials. Seems problems develop in their brains from infestation of parasites. After careful monitoring of the animal it was of best interest for the land owners and public to put this beauty to rest. Many thanks go out to Mr. Moose for the opportunity for many people to observe an animal of this nature to be right here in our back yards. Thanks go out to those who supplied GATOR transportation up into the best viewing points. On a better note another one of these beauties I hear tell is in the Kayuta Lake area and does have a collar about it's neck. Just remember folks these are wild animals so do not under estimate their potential, also do not provoke them in any way. Till next time with Tales of the north country. Good Day, Bruce Phelps ,Remsen N.Y.

Natural Wildlife is becoming extinct because of the DEC. Sure thats it. It had nothing to do with the terminal illness it contracted from the parasite that was in its brain, turning brain into swiss cheese. Blamr the DEC, its the popular thing to do

If the animal wasn't causing a problem, they should have lat him be...there have been moose visiting the area for years.

We feel bad for Mr. Moose, and never got a chance to see him. Just wondering if he will be tested for the infection. Such a shame that a beauty had to be put down if he wasn't hurting anybody. Is this why our natural wildlife is becoming extinct?

Sorry about Mr. Moose, but you're right, he did give us all the wonderful opportunity to see him. However sad his story ended, he gave my husband and I a bit of enjoyment, as well as others, I'm sure. Thanks for the pics of him Mr. Phelps

As I remember, the parasite problem, linked to the white-tailed deer, pretty much caused their disappearance in past years. I had hoped that infection had gone away.
