We Though We Had Turbine Probelms

If you’re a resident of Norway or Fairfield seeking refuge from windmills this is not the place for you. I was climbing a fire tower mountain last weekend. As I approached the mountain I kept hearing a strange rattling sound coming from the windblown trees on top. I kept wondering what kind of tree makes a rattling sound like that. Maybe it’s blowing 60 miles per hour up there. I didn’t know what to expect when I reached the top. While climbing, the sound got louder. It sounded just like a helicopter that wouldn’t leave the mountain. When I reached the top there was a small wind turbine. It was making that noise! That thing was whipping so hard that if it snapped, it would explode and send shrapnel right through me. And those who live back home think they have it bad. Here is a pristine mountain top plagued by a horrific sound. It’s a small running helicopter that never leaves. At least you can still get a great view of Lake George. Nearby is a fire tower. A 39’ foot trestle was added on top of cab. It’s used for communications powered by solar panels and this wind turbine. Even though the DEC owns the bottom half you still can’t climb it.
I read in the book “Adirondack Fire Towers Their History and Lore”, by Martin Podskoch that the mountain had a fire centuries ago. The fire burned all the timber down leaving it Black. It became known as Black Mountain.

You have nothing to worry to worry about, some of these can be designed to shut down on there own. Plus, you were in an area that you really shouldn't be. You were on a major area for communications. It seems that this company is is being responsible

and they are using varied technologies for for self sufficiency . I would be happy that they are using "Green" technology. actually it has been around for over a thousand years. wind mills have been used in holland for grinding grain into flour.

and some are still running . Other windmills were used for controlling water as well. You painted a picture that these are unsafe when in essence they are not. You should heed all warnings, and No trespassing signs, they are after all for your own

They are after all there for your own safety. And remember some companies have the right to shoot trespassers.

Maybe I was being over dramtic. The point I was trying to get across is how surprised I was at how intense this thing was moving. It is quite loud up there.

And I wasn't trespassing. The trail up to the summit is marked by the DEC. It's just the tower you can't climb.
