Wind Farm Nearing Completion

The wind farm in Norway and Fairfield is nearing completion. I went on a very tall hill on the opposite side of the Kuyahoora valley and viewed them. I counted 11 on Dairy Hill with one pending. Most of Dairy Hill is within Norway. Fairfield has all 25 built bringing the region to 37 wind turbines which is consistent with what I originally understood. Remendering an article published by the Evening Times, there is supposed to be 25 in fairfield and 12 in Norway. That seems to vary from person to person. One prominent person said, there should be 38 and if I heard him right maybe more in the future. Well whatever it is, they are almost done for this round.

In photo one is obviously the Hamlet of Fairfield. It's surrounded by Wind turbines on three sides. In my opinion, looking toward the north and south in certain positions, they do look overwhelming to put it nicely. But the three toward the east make a good background. The view of the Kuyahoora valley (West Canada Creek) from the hamlet is unaffected Thank God! Those amongst the Turbine line may not be so fortunate. I would imagine those who stargazed on Barto Hill might not be happy now. The once open sky is now partly crowded by the wind turbines. Now the proponents of the turbines are going to get mad. I'm sorry that's the truth. Whether they are good or bad, there is a price to pay for putting up 400 hundred foot windmills so crowded together. Your going to loose the pristiness of the country. That is why I'm not sure about this aggressive expanded of turbines on every ridge like Dry Hill. We don't want to loose it all. A few are fine even excellent, but not scores in every township.

The second picture shows the wind turbines near Goodell Corners. On older maps the meeting of 170 and 170A is labeled Goodell Corners. Four Wind Mills are in a line from Topnotch Hill to the corners, right at the border of the town of Manheim. I like these better. Don't get me wrong. I think they are awsome at times. They look just right in these farm fields. The third picture is another example. These can be seen between hills from 167 on Ransom Hill.

Despite some of the negatives of windmill crowding it is kind of cool to drive up 170 to 29. Just past Castle and Davis Road a windmill greets you straight down the road. Suddenly some 10 wind mills surround you near the hamlet of Fairfield. Other roads to drive down are Cole Rd, Dairy Hill Rd, and Castle Rd.

Since I'm a bird lover, it would be interesting to see how many birds are socked by the blades. I wonder if that even happens substentially at all. Well lets see how this project works out and learn from it.

Just about all of them were moving today. The one off of Castle Rd. between Teal Rd. and 29 wasn't moving. Maybe it wasn't moving yet because of the crane being too close or it's not ready yet.

There is a group of four on Castle Rd. north of the Teal Rd. Intersection. I saw them move a little last Tuesday. Sometimes various turbines are active and other times there not. I was at the St Regis Fire Tower today and missed that.

One of the ones Goodell Corners was spinning for a bit late this afternoon. I would guess they were testing it since it soon shut down. I have a good view of those 4 from Sandy Lane Rd in the town of Little Falls, and can also see several more.
