These photo's were taken on one of Salisbury Ridge Runners snowmobile trail system (The Switchback Trail), which is a 10 mile trail that runs across our property. My wife and I walk our dogs on this trail when weather permits. What is unique in these photo's is the apprx 48" channel the woodpeckers have carved into the tree. I ride this trail quite often and never noticed the tree until we started walking the dogs on the trail. I then decided to bring along a camera so that others may see what a small bird can accomplish when searching for food.

Is that the one that follows the old railroad bed from Curtis? I understand that one of the trails labeled C4F has switchbacks along Trammel Creek and I have reached it using the Murphy Brook Road passing Leipzig. Salisbury is full of hidden places.
