Micheal Rycraft is a senior at Proctor High School, just 17 years old and 6'2 at 165 lbs has had over 40 amateur bouts. His baby face is left unscarred as he will be amongst the hundreds graduating this June 2011. His grades stand solid in the high 80’s; he plans to attend a local college this fall.
His amateur boxing career has been relatively quiet so he could continue to focus on his studies. He began boxing competitively at the age of 8, winning his first bout. Within those 40 bouts he successfully placed two silvers and one bronze in the Junior Olympics in Lake Placid, N.Y.
Last summer he gladly accepted an opportunity to spar with a world champ Paul Spadafora 44-0. This has turned into an enormous learning experience that he will take into the ring this Friday March 18th 2011, in Kingston NY against the Irish National Team from Belfast Ireland.
The event is being held at The Kate Walton Field House on Kingston High School Campus, 403 Broadway Kingston, N.Y. Doors will open at 6pm and the bouts begin at 7pm. The venue is held under the guidance of Kingston’s PAL’s, Billy Costello(ex- lightweight champion,) and Al Nace.
