Milford business owner, Pauline Koren announced she will run for the Otsego County Board of Representatives in District 5 representing the towns of Milford, New Lisbon, and Hartwick.
“Otsego County has been my home for most of my life and I love this area. We are facing many issues within the county and I am looking forward to bringing a new perspective to the board should I be elected.”
Koren will seek the endorsement of the Republican, Conservative and Independence parties. “I have always enjoyed doing things for our community. I have been a member of the Village of Milford Planning Board since it was established in 2008. I own K and B Craft Supplies in the village of Milford so I know how to develop and prepare budgets and stick with them. I’ve had to cope with government red tape and bureaucracy, and I want to make county government more affordable and customer friendly.”
For the past several years, Koren has provided many local residents with free dresses for the prom and other special occasions. Dresses are donated throughout the year and stored at K and B Craft Supplies and in the spring, letters are sent to local schools. One day is set aside just for high school students. The dresses are hung and a changing area is set up in the classroom at the store. On that day, each girl can stop in and get a gown for free. After that date, the dresses remain on display for a few weeks so others in search of a special occasion dress may get one free. The dresses are distributed to anyone who wants or needs a dress. There are no income requirements. In the past years many mothers of the bride or mothers of the groom have received dresses. Many have received dresses for formal affairs, dairy princesses, wedding parties, galas and more. This is a very popular event for the community with several hundreds of dresses collected and distributed over the past years.
Koren said, “I am looking forward to meeting with residents over the next several months as we approach Election Day.” Koren’s family lives in Otsego County. She graduated from Milford Central School and from SUNY Oneonta. “My roots are in Otsego County and I intend to stay here. Otsego County is in my future and my children’s and grandchildren’s future so I want the best for it.”
