Tree falls across street in Dolgeville

At 10:00 AM, the strong winds from Tropical Storm Irene caused this large Birch tree become uprooted, and it collapsed across East Spofford Ave, in the village of Dolgeville. The tree blocked off traffic completely, and the Dolgeville Fire Department responded within minutes of the crash, along with the Village DPW. The street was blocked off to traffic, as the tree took down power lines to a village home when it fell. National Grid has been called to the scene to secure the power lines before clean up can begin. No injuries have been reported at this time, although neighbors felt the tree fall and noticed their lights flash and power surge as it came down.
