Tomany Mountain is found near Averys place on route 10 between Piseco Lake and the Stoner Lakes. At the top are fire tower ruins and remnants of an observer cabin. The abandoned trail follows shanty brook and then crosses it. It climbs a knoll and reaches a muddy area. There is a snowmobile trail there and can be mistaken as the mountain trail. The mountain trail is marked by ribbon and old telephone poles. From the muddy area the trail heads straight up the mountain following a stream. Climbing steepens with a lot of blowdown. There is a lot of bushwhacking and it's easy to get lost. Eventually the trail reaches the top of the ridge. It follows it to the summit where the fire tower once stood. the third photo shows where I believe the tower once stood.
