It was great weather for Canadian Thanksgiving and fall foliage last weekend. The trail heads for various high peaks were packed. cars lined route 73. I climbed Pitchoff and Cascade. The two mountains are just across from each on route 73 east of Lake Placid. Cascade is a high peak and gets it's name from a large Cascade that falls quite a ways down it's steep northern slope. It's easily seen from Pitchoff Mountain.
The first photo was taken from the summit of Cascade. Mount Marcy dominates all mountains far center. To the right is Colden and the secound highest Algonquin. To the left is the Great Range. There names are as follows, Haystack, Basin, Saddleback, Gothics, Sawteeth, armstrong and the Wolfjaws. The mountain immediately infront, that curves upwards, is Big Slide.
Right next and attached to Cascade is Porter Mountain. It's an easy one to walk over to.
In the secound photo is Pitchoff mountain and the giant cliff that overlooks the cascade lakes. The summit is to the right of that cliff. The hike is an elongated mountain with many false peaks. It's quite a unique hike with many different views. The third picture shows the Jay Mountains all burnt red in Autumn foliage.
