The Mohawk Valley Barbershop Chorus "Upstate Harmonizers", a partner of the "New Horizons Chorus" of New Hartford, NY, has won the Seneca Land District Championship under the direction of Dr. Rob Hopkins of Hamilton College. The 18-man chorus competed against 11 other larger choruses from the Western New York / Pennsylvania based district to win the title. The competition took place at the Rochester Convention Center in October. Ranging from Amsterdam to Syracuse, all performers in the group are members of the Mohawk Valley Chapter of the Barbershop Harmony Society.
As a result of their win, the chorus has now grown to 25 men and has earned to right to compete in Barbershop Harmony Society International Competition scheduled for July 6th, 2012 in Portland, Oregon.
Director Hopkins said, “It’s not too late to become part of this winning chorus.” The chorus is seeking to recruit new singers to take part in the Portland competition. Rehearsals take place at the First Presbyterian Church of New Hartford, NY.
