The RFA hockey team visited John Joy Elementary school on January 27 to read the book, “The Puck Hog” to the students in Mrs. Gray's class. It was part of an Elementary School “Knight” promotion that invited students to a home hockey game on January 6. The classroom with the most attendance that night received a special visit from hockey players.
“The Puck Hog” is a children's book featuring a fictional youth hockey team named the Crunch. The story focuses on Eddie, a puck-hogging teammate who only cares about his own stats. A team trip to a Syracuse Crunch game and a pivotal moment on the ice leads to kids learning about the importance of teamwork and unselfishness.
The second graders also had the opportunity to ask the players questions about hockey, such as how long they have been playing the sport, what position they play, and who is their favorite NHL team and player. The RFA hockey team clinched the division with a perfect 8-0 league mark. RFA hockey coach, Greg Cuthbertson leads the Black Knights.
