Femal Luna Moth

Luna Moth Endangered Species

Caught this last night in Floyd, kept her long enough to show my 6 year old daughter and then released as they are an endangered species. The antennas show this is a female luna moth. luna moths only live about a week as they have no mouths to eat. They only live long enough to mate and lay their eggs.

Actually you have a male. We found a female by our gum wood tree. Beautiful moth. Simply created for its beauty! :-) the females antennas are much smaller. It is the only way to distinguish the sex.

Who claims they are endangered? I had one today I video taped its morphing into a moth and it flew away.
