Something Stinks in Rome NY

A skunk was hit on West Street in Rome NY and died after 11 hours after suffering from internal injuries. Animal Control was called but would not come to help, unless someone paid $150.00 plus tax. With today's economy, no one in the area had the financial means to help the animal. This raises the question of what does animal control do for the animal in need?

Everyone needs to carry the numbers with them for the area "wildlife rehabilitators". These people are very good at what they do and do not charge. They are lisenced by DEC and their only rewards are in heaven and whatever "donations" they recieve.

Utica DEC Wildlife - 793-2554 according to the Rome City website, animal control does offer "Advice and referrals for handling wildlife" maybe thats where your $150 came from -

this happens in nature all the time - are you going to take your camera into the woods and track every animal in nature? - better a skunk than a child - why didn't anyone call DEC? You people have WAY too much freakin' time on your hands

why not bring it to a vets office . Some will treat it and give to shelters or put back in to the wild. Other states do it, does Rome?

Good question! If you find out let me know! It seems to me that they just go around picking up your house pets that escaped through an open door then they want to change you a s*!t load of money to get it back. WANNA BE COPS!!!

At the end of the video you can hear one of the woman say, "can we smother it?" And they are worried about the animal suffering? To the woman heard saying this on the video...... How about if we smother you and see if you suffer? Goofball!!!

Well, that really is a good question... $150.00 is a lot of money. I thought Animal Control was city funded. I have no Idea what their purpose is, but it seems that they did not care to help that animal. That was sad watching that animal suffer.
