Cadets Roczen and Strough Registering Guests

A Cadets View: Military Retirement Party

After holding the position of commander of the North East Air Defense Sector for three years, and over thirty years service to the United States, came the time for Colonel Speicher’s retirement— and what better way to celebrate a retirement then throwing a party?
Cadets Nick Kulesa, Dan Hereth, Bethany Roczen, Tyler Kulesa, Geoff Schmidt, and Schuyler Strough of the Civil Air Patrol Utica Cadet Squadron were honored to have the opportunity to work at this party. Supporting the Gilligan’s Island theme, by wearing red shirts and sailor’s hats, they did numerous jobs to help make the party a success.
First, upon arriving early, the cadets helped make lots of chicken, lamb and veggie kabobs. Next, a couple of the cadets worked at the sign-in table as guests started coming in. Meanwhile, the rest of the cadets would run back and forth, carrying food from the grill outside, inside to the buffet, refilling trays when needed. After the guests were finished eating, the cadets bussed tables, taking dishes, cups, bottles and cans, and disposing of them. As the party went on, the cadets kept busy collecting more cans and bottles, separating recyclables, and emptying trash cans. Finally, at the close of the party, the cadets stacked chairs and tables, swept and mopped the floors, and removed decorations. At the end of the day, all of the recyclables were donated to the Squadron.
Despite a very long day’s work, the cadets had a lot of fun working together, and enjoyed the party. They did an excellent job and received some great feedback from the guests, which was very appreciated.
