I really was fortunate to have a great California Spring vacation this year. I had never been to the West Coast but can now appreciate why so many people live there. The weather was picture perfect, however the first 24 hours of my trip was nothing short of crazy.
The first off-kilter adventure on day one of my vacation was taking a "bump" with my airline and getting rerouted to another airport. This wasn't so bad, after all I was flying this trip on a free ticket from taking a "bump" last year. This time I was given another free ticket and a ride to the new departure airport. I make it to the other airport to wait around for 3 hours before my plane takes off, so instead of leaving at 11am I don't get to leave until 5pm.
After stopping in Chicago, I finally make it to the new destination airport. Now it is about 1am Pacific time and I had got up at about 8am Eastern. I wait for a shuttle to get me to my hotel and arrive there at 2am. Much to my dismay, I have been "bumped" from my hotel. There are no rooms available even though I made a reservation. I was too tired to argue and agreed to take a nearby hotel (14 minutes away) which was comped by the hotel I should have been staying at. I sit on the curb, homeless in Anaheim, and wait for my taxi. I arrive at the other hotel and quickly jump into bed, it's 3am and now I can finally get some sleep. What a start to my vacation!
After a good nights rest I ran into someone who was in the same situation as I, and found that there were rooms available near my original hotel. Thank You Lord! I traverse back to my original location and find that indeed this other hotel has a room for me. I then proceed back to the "reserved" hotel and give them a piece of my mind. They apologize and tell me they will mail me a free, two night stay voucher. Awesome... the first 24 hours are over and now I can really start my vacation!
Over the next four days I enjoyed laying by the pool, relaxing in the hot tub, going to the spa, eating at great restaurants, exploring Disneyland and playing in the sand at Newport Beach. California is truly breathtaking.
Even with my first day misfortune, I had a wonderful trip and now have tickets for my next Spring Vacation!
