The New York State Rehabilitation Association (NYSRA) presented T.R. Proctor High School with the 2007 State/School Community Partnership - Quality Effective Practice Transition Service Award on Monday, May 19 at the Fort Schuyler Club in Utica. The statewide award recognizes excellence in service and supports provided for students with disabilities to transition into the work force.
Proctor High was nominated for the award by Joanne Donaruma, Director of Employment Services at The Arc Oneida-Lewis Chapter, which is a NYSRA member agency. The Arc works closely with the school educators and staff to prepare students with disabilities for the transition from the school environment to the world of work. Donaruma says that “The Arc and T.R. Proctor High School have served to provide numerous students with the tools they need to ensure successful transition to adult life. The school’s successful, innovative approach to transition planning is evident in the continually growing number of students graduating with vocational, educational, and community service connections already in place.”
