Bald Eagle

A Leucocephalus

Haliaeetus Leucocephalus is the scientific name for a bald eagle. Haliaeetus is a sea eagle, leuco is white, and cephalus is head. So it's a white headed sea eagle.

I have been driving around the Kuyahoora Valley looking for them. I had a pretty strong feeling they were in a particular bend in the river. When I drove there it looked like a winter wonderland. I turned my head toward the river, and there it was, an adult eagle perched over the water. I immediately got out of the car and tried to snap some pictures, but it flew further upstream. I had to zoom in quite a ways, but I managed to get a photo of it eight this morning.
