Performers from The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter’s StageWorks group sang for Utica Rotary members on Friday, June 13 at Twin Ponds Golf and Country Club. The performance was dedicated to the men and women of the Rotary Club of Utica who generously host a Holiday party for people with disabilities in our area every year.
About 10 performers were on hand to sing a medley of songs from the 60s. Some of the favorites included The Beatle’s, “I Wanna Hold Your Hand” and The Monkee’s, “I’m a Believer.” Thanks to Ellie Hadity, Carl O’Shea, Gale Mergenthaler and Janelle LaMonde for their direction and musical accompaniment. A special thank you to Kathi Tamer, Shari Cieslinski and the members of The Arc’s Leisure Center Program for providing the Rotary with homemade candy favors.
StageWorks was established to increase awareness of the abilities of people with disabilities. It provides an opportunity for individuals with musical talent and interest to participate in the creative and performing arts. StageWorks began in 1997 with seven performers. There are now 54 people that actively participate in the program. Performances take place in the community with the focus on choreography, dance and singing.
