The Solstice Moon came Wednesday, June 18, 2008, just two days before Summer began. It is believed that the sun and moon play "see saw" and when the sun goes down, the moon rises. As the moon comes off the horizon, it gives the illusion of being extremely large. This year, the full moon rose above in the east, but with the cloud coverage it was difficult to find coming up on the horizon. This picture that I took was after the moon cleared the horizon and the cloud coverage cleared away. The full moon was a beautiful golden/orange color and was still bigger than usual.
