Monk Rowe Trio Jazzes up the Library !

Jazz education is "on a tear" throughout the USA and players well versed in the history of their genre/craft are doing their part. As with many aspects of our culture,Central New Yorkers are pulling more than their share of the load...example, the Monk Rowe Trio playing to this rapt, broad spectrum audience in an upper room of the Utica Public Library Friday night May 24.
Tales of and tunes by Django Reinhardt to Max Roach, Basie, and modern references in the transition -to-rock items,Sleepwalk, Wipeout, and the "Silver Linings Playbook"-included "Unsquare Dance" by The Dave Brubeck Quartet made the Rowe agenda.
About 100 "made the scene" in the historic Utica Public Library which is enjoying an upsurge of public interest and patronage as civic groups increase their use of the facility for their "doings".
It should be noted that another luminary in the jazz education/ promotion field, Utica College grad Joann Stevens is the program manager of Jazz Appreciation Month at the American History Museum, a division of the Smithsonian in Washington DC.
