Each year, as part of its Silent Auction event, The Friends of The Arc Foundation, Inc. receives donations to fulfill the dreams of several people with special needs. The “I Have A Dream” candidates are submitted by staff of The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter’s various programs. Dreams fulfilled this year included a baby crib and stroller, a bean bag chair, a recumbent bicycle, regular visits to a salon, and an MP3 player. Pledges for “I Have a Dream” totaled $1,069.
Danny Lasher (pictured) was one of the lucky ones to have his dream fulfilled. Linda Cavanaugh, Program Director of Day Services at The Arc, said “Danny wanted a stand up easel to make it easier for him to do his art work.” After shopping with Danny she said, “You have never seen anyone sooo excited! He was able to purchase a wide variety of medium so he can draw, use water color pencils, and paint.” A piece of Danny’s artwork has been submitted to The Arc Otsego “Voice!” – an annual juried art exhibition celebrating the creative voices of artists with intellectual and other developmental disabilities. Twenty- two year old Lasher lives at home with his family and attends the Arc’s Venture Day Habilitation Program.
