Rescue Me: Scotia, NY Dog Lost in Utica
Gabby has had her share of ups and downs in life. The last two years has been up, living in a loving foster home with dog friends after having been rescued from a Ohio shelter after being caught as a stray.
However, her foster mom was dealt a difficult blow when she lost her job, and it was decided that Gabby would have to go to another foster home in Buffalo. Gabby was set to leave on a transport Saturday, June 28, where drivers from Scotia to Buffalo would help her get to her new foster. Gabby however, did not agree with this plan.
In a panic, Gabby backed out of her collar at NYS Thruway Exit 31 in Utica, and ran from the transporter, leaving her without her collar or tags to identify her.
Gabby is a fearful dog, and particularly afraid of men. Unlike many dogs who adjust quickly when in a stable environment, there are some dogs who never act like “normal” dogs. Gabby is one of those cases, but has lived happily with the foster family, who are experienced in working with such dogs.
Foster Laurie Brown says, “This is making this much more frightening for us, and for her. We are so afraid that we won’t be able to get her back-she just needs this one more chance.”
Brown also states that she does know of success stories of dogs similar in temperament to Gabby being caught after being on the run and that is helping her to hold out hope. She, her children, and other rescue volunteers have been looking for Gabby almost non-stop since the incident on Saturday.
People can help by contacting Brown at 518-391-5029 if they see Gabby, but do not try to approach her – it only makes her disappear again. A humane trap has been set. Thoughts and prayers are being said all in hopes that Gabby will get this one more chance. As for future transports, Gabby has made it clear that she is not in favor, and all are in agreement that Gabby will be a local girl once she is safe in her foster home.
She was last seen on July 1 on Wurz Avenue.

Gabby has been out in the woods for a week now by herself. We need to find her and let her know that she is loved and will be taken care of.
