Lowville, NY – The Virkler family presented a check for $13,000 to officials of The Arc, Oneida-Lewis Chapter, NYSARC on Thursday, July 24, 2008 at V.S. Virkler & Sons, Inc. in Lowville. Angela VanDerhoof, Executive Director of The Arc, accepted the generous donation from Chip, Susan and Joe Virkler. The $13,000 check includes a gift for $8,000 for this year and $5,000 that was donated last year. Their gift will help purchase life-saving automated external defibrillators to be located at Arc sites throughout Lewis and Oneida Counties. EMTs registered with the local fire departments are aware of the nine locations where the AEDs are housed. In the event that an EMT needs access to this equipment to help save a life, the units are available to them.
Larry J. Virkler, the non-profit organization’s namesake, passed away four years ago from a heart attack. Since their father’s passing, his sons Scott, Joe and Steven Virkler and their uncle, Chip Virkler, have hosted a golf tournament every Memorial Day weekend at the Brantingham Lake Golf Resort to fund their important community health project. The Larry J. Virkler Memorial Foundation has provided defibrillators to public places in hopes that the families of those-at-risk will not suffer the same tragedy.
The Arc is a non-profit human services agency which provides advocacy and services for individuals with developmental disabilities in Oneida and Lewis counties.
