On this past Friday, October 10th, my husband and I had decided to take a drive to get some fall foilage pictures. As we usually do, we started through the Ilion Gorge, being that it's a nice relaxing drive and a beautifule site to take in. We came upon the old swimming hole, that I've taken numerous pictures at, and that others still frequently swim at during the warm weather months. I can't tell you how disgusted we were to find an old couch, an old chair, and someones used tires there. My husband tried to get a rope around the chair, which had been thrown into the swimming hole, to pull it out, but was unsuccessful. Not knowing how to make others aware that this is going on in the gorge, I thought maybe writing a small story with a few pics would at least get a message out to those of us that care. I know that those that left their garbage behind have to be smart enough to know that there are places around our area to dispose of these things, and that if caught, you can be arrested. Please start using them. That spot in the Ilion Gorge has been there since we were kids, and our kids have swam there also. Please help to keep it clean, so that future Ilionites and others in generations to come will always be able to swim or simply take in the view there. Thanks for taking the time to read this. Sincerely, Julie Kehoe, Ilion NY
