Oneonta, NY---- 550 people gathered at the Alumni Field House at SUNY Oneonta yesterday for the National Kidney Foundation of Northeast New York’s 1st Annual Walk and Family Fun Day sponsored by Bassett Healthcare and hosted by SUNY Oneonta’s Phi Sigma Sigma and the Center for Social Responsibility and Community. Students and families together raised approximately $17,000 to help fund Kidney research, Patient and Family services and Public Health Education for the Northeast New York region.
Besides an indoor walk, live music and plenty of activities for the kids, 45 people took advantage of the Kidney Early Evaluation Program (KEEP), a free health screening provided by the NKF that detects kidney disease at the earliest stage possible. Participants received a comprehensive health risk appraisal, blood pressure measurement, blood and urine testing and the opportunity to discuss their health and review results with a doctor from Basset Healthcare in Cooperstown.
