By the time both teams took the field, there was 3 inches or more of snow covering the ground in Tuesday's semi-final match-up in Section III, Class A action between #1 seed Whitesboro and #5 seed East Syracuse-Minoa,
Section III, I ask you, is this soccer?
This is a game that should not have taken place. It was not going to showcase two semi-final teams' soccer skills and have the more proficient team win, it came down to who could stand up on the field and pure luck.
With 3 inches of snow on the field, 20-25 mph winds, and squall like conditions Section III and officials determined that things were appropriate to play the game. Never mind that only the lines were visible, and then only for a time and that the Section wouldn't have the proper equipment on hand to clear he field, or that at times the players lost the white ball in the blizzard like conditions.
This was a Tuesday pairing that could have been shifted to Wednesday or even Thursday for such an important game. Finals aren't until Friday and Saturday. And, to add insult to injury the #1 seed had to travel 3 times the distance to the filed of play than the #5 seed.
In the end both teams had to play in the same conditions, but pure luck not skill determined a winner.
Section III, both teams deserved better.
