Here it is December, and children at Westmoreland still are without a recess program. The school officials did form a "recess study group" to address concerns, listen to ideas---and it seemed (at first) to come to a reasonable solution. Unfortunately, it seems that Westmoreland officials were never too serious or worried about REALLY ever returning recess...The committee was nothing more than a "publicity stunt" to better their damaged image as a result of media interest and public outcry. As a matter of fact, principal Joann Ottman and school board president, Mitch Lemaire, have decided after ONLY 3 meetings, the committee's work was complete. This shows obvious disregard and disrespect to the 255 people who signed a petition to support recess, the unsatisfied and upset parents, children and teachers. Westmoreland doesn't like any attention drawn to this topic and wishes it would all go away....Not so...So we are here, a sign imploring this district to return recess....A simple request to Santa...
So members of the community of Westmoreland, I urge you to show support at the DECEMBER 9th Board of Education Meeting-6:30pm in the Westmoreland High School Library. Help give these children the gift of recess!
